Driving Test Errors

Types of Test Errors

Since the Q-Safe assessment system is competency based, your examiner evaluates your overall competency using a system of error types and frequency of errors which they observe during your driving assessment.

Assessment errors are grouped into two distinct categories: Non-critical errors and Critical errors.

During your assessment, you may accumulate up to eight Non-critical errors and still enjoy a successful outcome except that they cannot be the same type of error e.g. the maximum number of errors for missed shoulder-checks is five. At this point the maximum number of allowable repetitions is reached and the next occurrence becomes Critical.

If an error in the Critical category occurs during your assessment, the test is normally terminated and an unsuccessful outcome is recorded. Critical errors are identifiable as breaches of legal requirements or safety requirements during the assessment which may include the necessity for intervention by the examiner.
